Brief History

The Writers' Group of the Triad was originally the Greensboro Writers Club which had its inception in the 1950s. It was founded by Judith Hill, a local writer who also directs the popular Wildacres Writers' Workshop and Retreat held each summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The group met on the campus of Guilford College and held monthly meetings with featured speakers.

In 1990 several writers decided to revitalize the group by changing its focus from a monthly meeting to a more comprehensive organization made up of subgroups to specifically help writers in their chosen genre. Poets would meet with poets, mystery writers would meet with mystery writers, playwrights with playwrights.

Today, we have more than a dozen such groups in the Triad area. These are working groups which help each other by critiquing manuscripts monthly, discussing marketing strategies and participating in free open-to-the-public workshops and readings at the library and other locations.

Our facilitators are professionals in their respective genres, in many cases respected educators and published authors who have taught or who are teaching at local universities. They give freely of their time and talents to this not-for-profit organization.
